At a college targeted by DeSantis, gender studies is out, jocks are in
Rufo speaks a lot about academic excellence and the virtues of a classical liberal education. But as Steven Walker of The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported in a damning July story, the incoming class recruited by the new administration has lower average grades, SAT scores and ACT scores than last year’s class. “Much of the drop in average scores can be attributed to incoming student-athletes who, despite scoring worse on average, have earned a disproportionate number of the school’s $10,000-per-year merit-based scholarships,” wrote Walker.

You run this article 2 years ago about declining scores due to admissions changes de-emphasis on scores etc. and you get called racist.

Now it's just a political propaganda opinion piece.

Do an internet search for ‘square dancing racist’. There’s some interesting and very well-documented stuff on how its rise in many American schools goes back to Henry Ford’s anti-semitism and dislike of jazz music and Ford’s attempt to rewire American culture with an activity he saw as more wholesome.

IMO, a number of those discussions are pretty good reads, and that bit of educational history tends to fly below the radar across the political spectrum. At this point, the ‘it’s more wholesome than jazz’ ship has long sailed and it will remain in many a PE curriculum regardless of the politics of the people writing the standards because it’s an alternative to dodgeball that doesn’t require any equipment other than something to play music.

Here is what I think was the original article that the NY Times person referenced.

https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/...n/70445567007/

and OMG....yep there it is....

March also said enrollment of Black, Hispanic and male students in this year's incoming class has increased, adding that "the student body will be more diverse after the dismantling of New College’s DEI bureaucracy than it was before."
Yep OP, you and the NY Times reporter seem to be upset that diversity and Inclusion is lowering scores at the school....and it's Desantis' fault.

Yet another Desantis backfire as one could bet heavily that was not the desired outcome.

All this over an OpEd Piece and as for the benchmark standard of rankings US News and World Report does currently show Florida as #1 overall and for Higher Education but #14 for K-12. But if you look at the different categories they score #46 for Opportunity so I guess those earning degrees and training will have to go elsewhere to use them.

Next year may be different, we'll see...

Nice partisan spin...coupled by a reference to an unsourced report that is an opinion piece using criteria and weights they select.

The NYT allowed someone their platform to launch a political hit piece on Desantis for a policy the left has been pushing and you pop in to tell us to ignore it...lol.

Comical to see the left wingers of society roll with this in their political echo chambers yet failing to realize ACT and SAT test scores are historically low nationwide due to nothing other than the COVID shutdowns pushed by their own beloved political party.

File that under “you can’t make this stuff up”.

A "political hit piece", its an OpEd, are only those article favorable to the little dictator allowed to be referenced? I guess so according to you. He has thrown his hat into the GOP race that opens him up to national scrutiny, did you really think the rest of the country would embrace his positions the way his minions do in Florida?

As for the US News rankings the other poster referenced them and they are considered the benchmark standard by most...
