I blame those who destroying the cities & states they lived in so badly, that millions of them fled NY, NJ, PA, CT MI, IL, MA, MN, CA to FLA

They drove up demand for everything, which increased our prices here in Florida, especially for housing.

They are like a plague of locusts that destroy the habitat everywhere they go.

I'm okay with it though, because they doubled the value of my home in the pst 5 yrs.

1. Most Floridians either come from somewhere else, or their parents came from somewhere else. There aren't very many 4th generation Floridians living in Florida.

2. Florida is where many northerners come to retire. Not because there's something "wrong" with their home state, but because the warmer weather means no need to shovel snow, or worry about their car not starting, or accidents on ice in the winter. They can play golf all year. This is true, and has been true, since the 1950's.

They’ll perform mental gymnastics and find a way…they always do.

Personally, I think this is a side effect of all the promotions Florida has done for the past several years on top of the usual retiree relocators. Everything that people are complaining about are the very things politicians and the business community have asked for and it's bipartisan.

People in the middle of their careers are moving here in higher numbers who need to live near jobs and populated areas (this is a big change)
More businesses opening
More homes built (mostly geared at relocators and not first home types)
More infrastructure going up

But we are also a peninsula with limited space to build unless we want to build over nature preserves or build in rural areas that may not support the influx of people who still need to work and be close to cities. We have huge swaths of grasslands, swamps, lakes, and rivers that take up a good size portion of the state.

There is a ton of building in Central Florida along the I-4 Corridor but that cannot be duplicated across the state as no other region in the state has two major separate hubs (Tampa and Orlando) in close enough proximity and buildable areas that are not grassland or swamp to make it work. And all that building still comes at a premium and is happening in semi-rural areas so the locals are feeling the squeeze.

I really do believe that sections of Florida will resemble some (to an extent, we don't have crazy building code red tape YET) of California's issues to a bit lesser degree in relation to the cost of living, housing, traffic, homelessness, and resources like water supply.

Tight inventory still prevails in many parts of the country but that is not the case in many areas of south Florida since many of these homes are second homes. Two houses in my subdivision are up for sale. One has sat for several months, while the other went on the market at the beginning of this month. No movement.

Maybe it's just not an attractive neighborhood, or the prices are too inflated for the market. Or maybe the houses aren't in great condition.

At Middleton, they're still in the first stages of building, and many of the homes are already sold - and not even built yet. They go fast around here.

Many are escaping the high cost of living, & high taxes too...not just bad weather.

Here in SWFL same thing. Houses go on the market and don't move, and then seeing price slashing after a month or so, especially on houses under 800k that typically have people take loans out for. Might be different further up the coast, but Lee, Charlotte, and Collier Counties the houses are not moving as much.

Maybe people are leery on roof damage. Houses can have damage that is hard to notice until rainy season starts or takes time to develop. Our house was like that after Ian. Just lost a couple shingles since our roof was brand new. Then a month later a nice rain storm and had a leak.

I wouldn't buy a house around here until after rainy season due to Ian.

In the storm surge areas of Ian people are reeling still, businesses struggling.

I went to Ft Myers Beach on a weekday 3 weeks ago and drove around.

It reminded me of the footage of Berlin right after the war ended. Rubble everywhere and just a few people milling around. Mostly saw some construction workers and a few locals. Otherwise everything wrecked still and saw hardly anything open.

The economy in the surge areas here in SWFL was crushed.
