now if you search "how many graduate medical school in Florida"......since you said there are very few if any recent grads

you find that there are only 3 states that graduate more medical students than Florida....Florida is the 4th highest

Maybe the major players will not hire recent grads

Or, maybe the recent grads do not want to work for the major players

Florida ranks 10th best for the highest average Doctor pay, so its not likely a low pay issue:

they can't hire them if they don't have residency slots open......

Florida graduates more people than there are residency positions open for them...

Florida has passed bills uping funding to the hosps so they can open more slots

Lots of young doctors down here under 40 still even though they have troubles attracting them.

Also a lot depends on the type of doctor too. I suspect down here in Florida a lot of high paid plastic surgeons in southeast Florida skews the numbers too.

Im NOT impressed with the cardiologist here in Southwest FL. Dealing with this issue with my mom right now. Has a complex issue and don't like the docs around here. Trying to get in at Tampa General.

Thx for educating me Corrie. I knew it wasn't a pay issue, so it had to be something else.

If I was a young Doctor, the last thing I'd want to do is look at old people all day every day.

Heck, I'm not a Doctor, & I don't like it either....even though to a young Doctor, I look old too

And, thx for pointing out that the links posted by Kyle had zero relevance....saved me the time to open them.

Clearly you're not the sharpest tool in the shed and apparently it was too complicated to conduct a local search of physicians, and through a cursory scan notice they're pretty much all over the age of 40 and /or a minimum of 10 years in practice.

This topic has nothing to do with the number of graduates produced, rather the average age of those who wind up working here.

No surprise that some folks want to derail a topic that they can't argue against.

The topic, as you said, is that there are more graduates LEAVING Florida, than there are Florida graduates becoming doctors IN Florida. Hospitals don't matter - they can do their residency anywhere and still return to Florida for their practice. Private practice, group practice, HMO, shared practice, hospital practice. Lots of options. That isn't happening. People are taking advantage of the lower-cost education here, and then bringing their education to other states instead of staying or returning after their residency somewhere else.
