The media overhypes FLA weather from June 1 to Nov 15th...just to sell advertising. I ignore it. If there's a Cat 4 or 5 imminent my friends will be talking about it, & I'll find out that way.

I totally agree with you about the hype. Whenever a tropical system forms anywhere near FL, I have to tell my family up in the midwest to ignore the Weather Channel and go online to one of the Tampa Bay news sites to get accurate, non-drama weather updates. Otherwise they're calling or texting every 10 minutes, worried we're about to be carried off in like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.

As a native Floridian living in another state, I can attest to the fact that storm information about Florida is HIGHLY dramatized and it's laughable. Storms and alligators.

the second a storm forms.....off the coast of Africa.....they draw a straight line to South Florida

...and the NHC will have the "cone of death" from Maine to Rio
