Nowhere in Florida feels like Georgia or Alabama.

There are parts of Georgia and Alabama that feel like Florida, however.

The 'Redneck Riviera' is the coastal area from Gulf Shores, Alabama to Panama City, Florida. 'Emerald Coast' is the politically correct/official marketing term for the region.

It's true that the name was "officially" coined by a writer for the NY Times; but that writer (Howell Raines) is a native Southerner, being Alabama-born and educated. Locals were calling the region the 'Redneck Riviera' long before his "viral" piece spread the word.

Locals have always embraced the term. Southerners are known for having an often self-deprecating sense of humor, after all.

Well said.
I will say, you will find Georgian families in FL. For me?
They had a KKK feel to them...like generations worth runs deep and they can't fake it. (icky feeling.)

In my opinion, the Emerald Coast is more Southern than Jacksonville, mostly because that area is more closely connected to Alabama and, to a lesser extent, Mississippi and Louisiana. In those states, Southern culture is more in tact than it is in coastal Georgia and the rest of Florida, which are the places that Jacksonville is most closely aligned with/connected to. People assert that Jacksonville is similar to Georgia. No, Tallahassee is similar to Georgia; Jacksonville feels like a larger, slightly more historic version of a Daytona Beach or Melbourne.

When you are traveling westward in northern Florida, I think a lot changes after you cross I-75 — more rural blacks, very little stucco, more historical sites, undulating terrain, less tropical foliage, etc.

You’ve never been in the Busy Bee truck stops just off I-10, have you? Pure southern Georgia vibe to me.

I have, and I associate North Florida with North Florida, not South Georgia.

When one compares a cross section of the people inhabiting the rural border areas between Florida and its neighbors, there's a noticeable difference as the Florida side still has significantly more northern transplants.

Yes, you are correct — the counties in Georgia (and Alabama) that border Florida have significantly more Georgia-born (or Alabama-born) residents than the counties on the other side of the state line have Florida-born residents.

Governor Ron DeSantis was born and raised in Jacksonville, I believe, and with his accent, he might as well be from Ohio or Pennsylvania.

Jax is a mix of redneck and larger southern city. Surprisingly, the two features never really clash and imo is a good mix.
