Florida has become more expensive as many people are flooding the state in the past few years. People from the northeast even find Florida expensive nowadays. What places in Florida are still affordable relative to the national average?

I would say smaller towns, center of the state, away from coasts. We live in Lakeland now, smack in the center of Florida. More affordable than Sarasota where we used to live, but cost is climbing.

Pretty much exurb and rural areas 60 to 90 minutes+ outside city centers. Places like Ocala, Spring Hill, Sebring, Palatka, Okeechobee....also rural panhandle towns off i 10 and near the Georgia border.

Even Spring Hill is becoming expensive. We bought our house new 3 years ago for about 175k. It was recently appraised for 290k. Rent has gone up drastically as well.

Florida is just like North Carolina........get out of the big metro areas/ more rural and it gets cheaper because nobody wants to live there.

Charlotte and Miami will always be pricey because its in demand.
Wrightsville and Palm Beach will always be pricey because of their proximity to the water.

In contrast, nobody cares to live in Belle Glade, FL or Goldsboro, NC so its very cheap.

it's all relative. Compared to Tampa Spring Hill is cheap. You are looking at $500k++ in desirable parts of Tampa.

According to The Zebra, an insurance comparison company, the average price of a home in the US is close to $350k. According to Zillow, the average for Florida is closer to $410k. I agree with all the recommendations to look in rural areas, which are going to be found near Lake Okeechobee, and the northern part of the state, especially near the border of Georgia/Alabama.
