I like the Yamaha V Star 06 I've had since new and no big problems with it .
Harley are like a VW the need constant attention .
It largely depends on your skill and the work you plan to put it to .
A dual sport is a little lite for highway driving ,great on side streets and dirt.
I don't particularly care for rice rockets , they have too much soup and easily gotten into trouble. including attracting trouble.
The heavier mid weight bikes are easier on gas and the budget and usually good on the highway .
Mine is a 650 shaft drive and I love not having to mess with a chain or worn sprockets .
I cary a lot of weight 3 bags , it's my primary transportation, though I do have other options .
Check with insurance and find out the difference in cost versus engine size ,and you'd best have a motor cycle license.
