I understand that there are those who don't like guys wearing either but this question is for those who don't mind guys wearing them.

I have these leather slide sandals that are similar to these:

A friend (and a few others) told me they are too bulky and leather flip flops are more stylish these days and a better look. She said something like these would be better:

I was under the impression that flip flops are too casual for most situations and should be restricted to the beach and around the house. What is the better choice?

With shorts, I think either is ok. They both look well made, though the bottom pair does seem a little more casual.

Cheapo plastic/rubber flipflops however, should probably stay at home or at the beach/pool.

Sandals...flip flops are not even real foot wear.

Hard to say, as I find just looking at flip-flops hurts,
as I cannot wear them (because they cause me foot pain).
So, from that biased p.o.v. I'd say go for the sandals.
But I'm not a fashionista or anything...

Default Even at the beach sometimes flip-flops

are wrong. I was waiting at a beach restaurant for a table and there was an older man with hairy toes and toenails so long he could have perched on a branch. Just wrong!

And with those open-toed shoes, what color nail polish is the most manly? Navy blue firehouse red or say an action orange?
