That’s true by all means. German economy is going downhill really fast as their production output fell sharply during last year due to the energy crisis and the high levels of inflation. Moreover German auto industry has left behind their competitors as a result sales are falling and layoffs is taking place, Volkswagen CEO said some months ago that his company is not competitive anymore and worse has set to come. Last but not least the country face a major shortage of high skilled workers so the aggregate productivity doesn’t grow but well educated labor force prefers other countries like the US, UK, Canada or Australia due to the prevalence of the English language.
I was looking at EVs the other week. FWIIW I'm a lifer BMW fan. A Tesla S Plaid with every possible feature is about $120K. The most similar BMW EV is less powerful, has less range and costs ~$210K.

That’s quite sad because Germans auto makers was on the top of the world some years ago but now they are losing power and reputation faster than ever before. Also we need to mention the fact that Germans elected in 2021 the worst government in their modern history as the SPD - Green party have broken the industry by implementing devastating bills with purpose to protect the environment. Germany reported budget deficit for the first time in more than two decades while their trade balance have almost decapitated since this government took the office. But to be fair it’s not only Germany as the same story takes place in many European countries like France, UK etc.
Europe has had trouble holding its own against China, both in terms of direct trade as well as keeping their IP. Think China developed their tremendous fast train network? The first 18 Km or so was track they paid for from Siemens. They then invited the top English, French, German and Japanese makers to compete for their massive network to be developed....but forced them all into joint ventures and eventually squeezed them out of their own deals, stealing the IP in the process. Japan was the only one smart enough to not send her Tier 1 tech.
