(CBS/AP) Dogs are not a mail carrier's best friend. But in one Detroit neighborhood the dog situation got so bad that the U.S. Postal Service decided to indefinitely suspend mail deliveries.

Residents of the four-block area on Detroit's northwest side have had to pick up their mail at the local post office since home deliveries were halted in mid-April.

It wasn't only the dog attacks: Staged daytime dogfights also played a major role in the decision, the city postmaster said.

Something like that is beyond the ability of animal control in most instances. That looks more like a criminal ring than a stray dog or simple animal abuse.

That is horrible! I hate hearing about stuff like that! People that abuse dogs, neglect dogs and train dogs to be mean or fight should be fined, thrown in jail and not ever be allowed to own any breed of dog ever again! People like that make me sick! People should also control their dogs! As the dogs owner it is their responsiblity to have their dog under control! That means their dog shouldnt be outside without being in a fence, on a run (not a chain, that cruel) or on a leash! If dog owner would just be responsible and respectful like they should be we wouldnt have problems like this! : (
