Are there Standard hand signs for the basic commands, sit, place, off, etc.? I would like to train with verbal and nonverbal commands.

There are no hard and fast rules. Just make each hand signal distinctive, so your dog is ABSOLUTELY sure what you'd like him or her to do.

years ago, my brother trained a lab to hand signals.... used a book called "water dog" or something similar to that ..... i know it is still available.... saw it on amazon recently...... was a JOY to watch that dog go through his paces.....
