It does help to look away. When the dog jumps, look the other way, no idea contact, like the dog is not even there. Pretty soon, the pup will be sitting on the floor.

Gotta definitely agree here, mine are very bribable and it doesnt take much. Sort of reminds me of a close relative who was once talking about her nursery school students - said it was absolutely amazing how well they behaved, all for a small chocolate smartie (like an M&M) - pups aren't much different in that respect. Given that, it is a little difficult with toddlers b/c oftentimes puppies view them as siblings but it can be done with patience and praise, time helps too as they both mature etc.

Default Puppy jumps on everything/everyone

I had been going through the same thing with our dog only ours is a Pit Bull and people are scared of her to begin with which is ridiculous because she would go with ANYONE and is a lousy watchdog...seriously..she would show the thief where all the good stuff is...and probably help him load it in his car!!

Anyhow, our Pit would not only jump on people but she would get a running start so she was body slamming them at the same time. I have been on her from the day we got her to "Stop" and "GET DOWN" and finally "DOWN". Just the other day, the chimney cleaning guy came so I put our dear Ms. Pit in the master bedroom and closed the door. Of course she is in there hearing "company" arrive and wants out. I ask him if he is afraid of Pit Bulls and as luck would have it, he has one. So, out she comes, full tilt and body slams him. Before the next jump, I holler "DOWN" and put my hand up in a "stop" motion, she immediately sat and I was psyched. Because Pits are stubborn...this has taken me 3 years to accomplish...yup...3!! So, take your new puppy to obedience school and they will be able to train him/her faster...the jumping on people does stop!

Good Luck
