I saw a great interview with one of the handlers of Cairo, the Belgian Malinois who went on the mission to kill Osama bin Laden. Belgian Malinois are one of the most heat tolerant service dogs, which is one of the reasons why they were chosen over larger breeds like GSDs. But the other reason they chose Belgian Malinois is because they are small enough to be carried by a soldier when they get too hot, or need to walk over broken glass or too-hot sands, but large enough to kill a human being. He did specify that the dogs get overheated quickly in the desert, which was one of the reasons why they couldn't wear doggie ballistic vests and sometimes had to be carried.

I don't really have a moral to the story other than, Belgian Malinois are more heat tolerant than some other breeds, but no dog is heat tolerant.

And part of me wants to leave him inside on days like that, but he loves his backyard and keeping him in makes me feel guilty. I have no trouble leaving him inside in the winter though for some reason.. (?)

On the other hand I don't want him to suffer in the heat. He usually comes out from under the deck when I get home and I think it's cool for him there.

So what to do... Is he ok outside as long as he goes under the deck? Or should I bring him in?
Yeah, a 100+F, isn't good for any dog. Get your dog out of that heat.

I'd get the dog outta 82F heat, if I had the chance.
