We are a Pet forum here, primarily meant to discuss our pets. We have had some
Hot Topics as of late and need to be sure we are all on the same page as to what
IS and what
ISN'T allowed here on the City-Data Pets forums.
Your moderators are volunteers offering their own personal time to moderate the forum for the benefit of all. Though we aim to be as thorough as possible, this is an active forum and it is not possible to read every posted word 24/7,
we need you to be our eyes and ears as well. This is YOUR forum and we all play a role in making it a good place to be.
We could use all of your help with steering this forum in the right direction, please read these bullet points below:
REPORT BAD THREADS: When you report a thread, it goes to a containment site where
ALL mods on City-Data can see it. If your regular mods ( Keeper, SouthernBelleInUtah, SamIAm) don't happen to be online, another mod is and they will attend to the reported thread. If you don't see instant results, don't fret, sometimes we have research to do or actions to take and the results may not be immediately visible. If you feel something was overlooked, you can always DM one of your mods. Report a post/thread by clicking on the red and white exclamation point on the upper right of the post.
NO MORE "PIT BULL ATTACK" NEWS LINKS OR STORIES: We are calling a moratorium on these. They become too inflammatory and the same members post the same points over and over. Inevitably someone jumps in and says something like 'all pit bulls need to be euthanized'......these debates get us nowhere and do nothing to educate people about the dogs and the relevant issues surrounding the dogs.
NO MORE REFERENCES TO DOGFIGHTING: This includes, but is not limited to, discussions of or references to: dogmen, pit dogs, gamebred, matching, bloodlines of fighting dogs, dog-fighting training and conditioning, breeding of fighting dogs......the list goes on and on. We're cracking down, your dog fighting discussions are not welcome here.
NO MORE INSTRUCTING OTHER MEMBERS TO PUT THEIR DOGS TO SLEEP: Mean-spirited comments such as "I think you should just put your dog to sleep then!" or "I think all (insert breed) should be put to sleep!" will not be tolerated. Advising someone to humanely euthanize their beloved pet is one thing, heavy handed statements like the ones above are another.
ABBREVIATIONS: Dog shows are a fun topic!
Most people know what AKC stands for, and probably UKC as well, but any other abbreviations should be spelled out. This is a forum for all, so let's be sure we're all speaking the same language and everyone is welcome to join in the discussion. Too many abbreviations in a post can read like cryptic code and then everyone has to go and google the initials.......just provide the necessary details and help us all understand what you're referring to

BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) DISCUSSIONS WILL BE LIMITED: BSL discussions should be limited to the sharing of information when replying to a question posed by a member, such as 'I'm moving to Idaho, do I need to worry about BSL there?". We may loosen up on this in the future, but for right now we need to keep it in check.
ZERO TOLERANCE: On all of the above. Violators will be infracted and banned, if necessary. Alluding to dogfighting or speaking in "code" to circumvent the rules above will not be tolerated either. Direct Messages, by the way, are scanned for key words and may be flagged for Admin to view if there is due cause.
NO BREED BASHING: Self explanatory. You may discuss why you feel one breed is better, or why you have chosen a certain breed. However, posts that bash any breed will be deleted immediately.
Dog lovers, we hear you, we're dog lovers as well, but we love them as pets. Dogfighting is inhumane and illegal, and if you don't agree, then this is not the forum for you.
