Just on the news here in Florida at noon. There is a recall on Petsmart Brand dog biscuits. The peanut butter paste they use may contain salmonella. I just switched to these biscuits a month ago. My little deaf pit has been sick, but they all eat them so I think she may be ok. It is both kinds, flavored bag and peanut butter ones.
PetSmart is voluntarily recalling seven of its Grreat Choice Dog Biscuit products that contain peanut paste made by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential Salmonella contamination of peanut butter and paste made at its Blakely, Ga., facility.
The recalled products include only the following types of Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits sold between Aug. 21, 2008, and Jan. 19, 2009:
I filled my doggie container with the last of the biscuits in the bag last week and threw it out so I do not even know what the UPC code was. This is getting crazy.....now I am afraid to buy anything for my dogs.
It's not just dog stuff that's recalled, but human cookies as well. It has nothing to do with pet food companies this time. We bake peanut butter cookies for our dog, with only 4 ingredients and all natural. We're not into the mass produced treats and he loves them.

Good idea, maybe I will look for a recipe and bake for my dogs too!
Here is the recipe. Make sure the peanut butter has only peanuts as the ingredient, and not hydrogenated oils and such. We usually make half the recipe, which makes about 17 bones. We use organic milk and pb, because that's all we ever have in the house. Porkchop loves these things. We put them in a tupperware container to keep them soft, but if you leave them out, they will turn out hard like the Milk Bone consistency, which some dogs prefer.
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk
Preheat oven to 375. Stir together flour and baking powder. Add peanut butter and milk to this mixture and blend well. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into shapes using cookie cutters. Place 2 inches apart onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly brown. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.

That explains the runs all three of my dogs were having last week for a few days. I give them the Extra Large Assorted biscuits mentioned. Man, what a mess. Nothing like runny poo from three big dogs all over your light carpet. I would go home for lunch and end up spending the whole hour on hands and knees cleaning the carpet and inhaling the stench. Thank God they are good now. And thank God I had plenty of rice to feed them. Cleared them right up. I really need to learn to cook though so I can ween them off of store brand food. I guess if at my age I don't learn to cook for me I might as well learn it for the monsters.
