I know Goldendoodles aren't purebreds, but this is the breed we have been researching and this dog has everything we want. We are going to take our time in finding him. I've heard hybrids are healthier than purebreds.
Let me tell you something. I'm a Standard Poodle breeder. I spend a lot of time at the dog park with usually 5 of my poodles. There are a lot of Goldendoodles there at the park that I observe and interact with a lot. Except for the very odd doodle, my poodles a far superior animals in every way. Their coat are superior, their bodies and conformation are far better, Their intelligence far far greater. Their athletic abilities are far surpassing the doodle. Their colouring and skin pigmentation are way above the Doodle. My wife is a professional groomer, she does a lot of golden doodles. Because they are hybrids, the coats on these dogs lack consistency, Some shed, some don't, some have undercoats, some don't. Some of the coats are frizzy, some tightly curled, loosely curled. Of all the golden doodles we know, there is one really exceptional one. Her name is Charlie and the reason she is an exceptional one is she is almost a poodle in every way. When my wife grooms her she acts and she looks like a poodle.

Although I don't support cross-breeding, there is one poodle cross that through observation and experience I feel is a far better cross than a Golden cross. The Old English Sheep Dog - Poodle cross produces some pretty amazing dogs. I could have had some as I have an intact Old English living with my poodle girls. I would never have crossed them intentionally but if it had happened I would not have been too upset. I say "If it had happened" because it won't now, I had Frodo castrated last week. The poor boy was being driven to distraction living with a whole harem of beautiful poodle girls!

I just looked up the Old English Sheepdog poodle mix and that's another goodlooking dog. There are so many poodle mixes out there because they are a great breed in a lot of ways. Our mini poodle has been a treat in health, temperament and intelligence.

We are slowly but surely moving away from the Goldendoodle after a lot of research, input and spending time with one. They do have that teddy bear face we both like and are a medium size dog (the goldens who are bred with the mini poodles) which we also like. Problem is with these hybrids is the cost and the fact you are not sure what you're getting as they all turn out different. We have a couple of Goldendoodle breeders in our state that start at 2000 and go up from there. Not paying that for a mixed breed dog.

I'd like to see a picture of that. I agree poodles are intelligent. So are my terriers!!
