Does anyone know of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeder anywhere in FL? My dad really has his heart set on this breed. He's looked for years at shelters, private homes, etc. to no avail. He's looked at various breeds and mutts, but really wants a Cavalier. He had one several years ago and has an affinity towards them.

Go the the king charles spaniel club site, they will have a list of breeders in Florida.
I also was considering one, however they cost alot. Be real carefull, and buy from a good breeder. The tibetain spaniel I heald is also a nice breed of dog, as the australian terrier.
Have you found a breeder yet? I have 2 Cavalier King Charles SPaniels and they are WONDERFUL. I can recommend 2 breeders to you if you have not had any luck. Be VERY cautious if you find a breeder who is willing to ship - a reputable breeder would not put a puppy/dog through that trauma. PM me if you need more advise.

Hi - how old are your spaniels? Are you aware of serious hereditary diseases that this breed can have?
They certainly are wonderful, lovable doggies. I know a couple of them, but I doubt whether I would want one due to their genetic health issues. I'd be afraid of losing one so quickly, or having to deal with a lot of medical issues and expense. Some breeds have more problems than others, so I'd look for something just as lovable but, hopefully, less prone to serious illness.
Make sure you meet the grandparents of a puppy or at least ask the lifespan and health issues of each line and how their ancestors died.
Another thing, don't neglect teeth care. If you don't keep on top of it and require an older dog to be sedated for a teeth cleaning and or teeth removal, this can trigger heart trouble and a general decline.
Cavaliers are notorious for having mitral valve issues in their hearts. Good breeders get echocardiograms of their breeding dogs on an annual basis and can show you the results.
And, like all other small breeds, they can also suffer from luxated patellae.

Couldn't rep you again because I just did elsewhere, but this is vey important info about the mitral valve issues. If they have this, they most likely don't live beyond 6 years or so, I'm told by someone who knows the breed well.
