Every so often I come across something about our state that I find interesting but don’t think it’s worthy of its own thread so I thought I would start a thread for posting miscellaneous items. I’d like to start with this item. They are coming out with a Greenwich version of the game Monopoly. Anyone interested in it?

I've got some great news for cyclists in the Portland area: it looks like the Airline Trail committee has reached agreements with some local landowners to get easements to extend the trail closer to the Portland village center. When completed, the trail will extend to the intersection at Routes 66 and 17, where the new Dairy Queen is going to be built.

That is great news. The Airline Trail is great and extending it further will be a wonderful addition. Even better would be getting it to the Connecticut River and dare I dream Middletown.

I didn’t know Dairy Queen was moving again. It seems like they just built the existing one on the opposite corner but it probably 20 or more years now. Jay

I think the long term dream/vision for the trail is to get it connected to the Arrigoni bridge. I think some of the earlier versions of the presentation also floated the idea of taking the trail North along the river to the ferry in Glastonbury, which would be lovely if they can make it happen someday.

In the meantime, Portland and Middletown both have very active Complete Streets committees that are promoting improvements to our walking and biking infrastructure. Downtown Portland got several miles of old, crumbling sidewalks replaced over the past couple of years, and it made a huge difference.

I haven't seen much news about the new DQ lately, but it looks like there's a lot of site prep going on at the new lot. I think the new one is supposed to be more like the stand-alone location in Cromwell with a drive through.

I remember when the current location was brand new when I was a kid, and before that my parents remember when the DQ was in an old barn building on that same lot!

I remember the old DQ there in the barn style structure. Can’t say I was a kid though. .

Sadly I’ve seen a lot of changes like that over the years. There’s one beautiful building I was involved with at the beginning of my career that is about to be demolished to make way for something else.

Well here’s something interesting, diners at Bartaco in Westport got a treat Wednesday afternoon, three of Hollywood’s biggest leading men dined there together. Bradley Cooper is renting an estate on Southport’s Sasco Hill Road. He was joined by Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio who is also rumored to be living in the area. What an interesting night that must have been. Jay

Yep, this was blowing up on all the FB mom feeds. I've heard there's been herds of them re-routing their typical jogging routes to now include Sacco Hill Rd.

What a great idea for a thread. This is what makes City Data legends. This is JayCT at the top of his game.
