We all thought it was going to be another Starbucks. This is good news.
I’m 95% positive that is a Starbucks. It’ll probably be built next to it. I mean the building is green like Starbucks, and Whataburgers are Red, White, and Yellow.

Whataburger uses a mostly orange and white color scheme. Some blue trim seems to have been removed by recent builds. They are expanding from Atlanta into the Upstate, Charlotte, and apparently now the Midlands. But in Columbia they may face strong competition from long established Rush's.
I hope there doesn't end up being a conflict with the slightly-differently-named ”What-A-Burger” in West Columbia. I go there from time to time, it's a family business and they are very nice people. I don't think they would raise a stink about it. They are closed on Sundays and are only open until 4 pm on weekdays and, I'm pretty sure, Saturdays. That place has been there forever and they have amazing food, always cooked to order. The corn dogs are the best I've ever had.

Hopefully the local What-A-Burger and the Texas based Whataburger can peacefully coexist. The same situation may soon come to pass in the Charlotte region, where Whataburger is expanding and already there are local What-A-Burger locations around Concord and Kannapolis.
Whataburger is good although in Columbia I am usually inclined to stop at Rush's.
