I lived in Canon City and it is a great small town but if you need medical care close by I would recommend Colorado Springs or maybe Pueblo. St. Thomas Moore hospital at Canon City is good for a small town but doesn't have the resources of a larger hospital like Memorial in Colorado Springs or Parkview in Pueblo. You will also find a greater selection of doctors and specialists in the larger cities. I enjoyed the small town atmosphere of Canon City and the close proximity of bigger cities like the Springs and Pueblo. If you haven't done so yet I would recommend visiting the area for at least a couple of weeks.

Once you have lived in the area awhile you will almost forget the prisons are there unless you are working at one of them or driving by.

Hello, all!
We currently live in Vermont, where the cost of living is insane. In June, after my son gets out of school, we have narrowed down to moving to Pueblo, Colorado Springs, or Canon City. I am leaning towards Canon City, because my son will be a freshman and he has been at an alternative school for the past 4 years (he has Aspergers and has done really well in a smaller class). Canon City High School has an alternative program that I was wondering if anyone knew about? There really isn't much on the high school website.
I am looking to purchase a cheap mobile home for cash as well, until we can situate ourselves in a better spot.

I have met Nadine and have talked and gotten together with her a few times, she is a very sweet woman, and her husband is very nice also. I wish we could have found a house on your street because everyone waves and have all been super nice.
Canon City is a great place to live, nice place to raise a family, and you don't have the rush, rush going on where bigger towns are so fast paced. The winters here are a piece of cake, snow is gone almost right away, and we are not far from COS or Pueblo if we want something different to do.
Thanks for remembering me and hope to get to meet up with you before we move about 3.4 miles from you. It is great to meet so many nice people.
Would be interested to know how Canon City is working out for you. We're a retired couple in northwest WY looking to move to another smallish town in the inter-mountain west where the winters are a bit less harsh than what we're accustomed to in northwest WY.
