No USC fans or thread so I'll park this here. He should have been fired at Oklahoma. Instead, he brought Grinch to USC where his defense wasn't up to par. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley is making a change to his coaching staff. Riley announced Sunday that defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has been fired. Grinch has coached alongside Riley dating back to 2019 when Riley hired him to be his defensive coordinator at Oklahoma. Grinch then followed Riley from Oklahoma to USC ahead of the 2022 season, but USC’s defense has been a major weakness during that span. Following a 52-42 loss to Washington on Saturday night, USC now ranks No. 122 out of 133 FBS teams in total defense (436 yards per game) and No. 124 in scoring defense (34.5 points per game). The loss to Washington dropped USC to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 play. It was the Trojans’ third loss in their last four games. Following Grinch’s dismissal, defensive line coach Shaun Tua and inside linebackers coach Brian Odom will serve as interim co-defensive coordinators for the rest of the season. Additionally, Taylor Mays, an analyst, has been elevated to a full-time on-field position coaching safeties.
Colorado Buffaloes offensive coordinator Sean Lewis might be one-and-done in Boulder. The former Kent State coach is reportedly on a shortlist of candidates to take over at Michigan State, according to FOX Sports' analyst Spencer Tillman. The longtime college football presenter talked about the possibility of Lewis heading to East Lansing during the Nebraska vs MSU broadcast. He listed Lewis along with Ohio State assistant Brian Hartline, Florida State assistant Alex Atkins, and Spartans interim coach Harlon Barnett.
Fisher is owed $19.2 million within 60 days and then $7.2 annually through 2031. There is no offset or mitigation on those payments (such as being hired by another school), and the annual payments start 120 days after termination.
So in 3 months he'll have $25.4 million (before taxes) in his bank account, is this the definition of failing up or what!
I guess if A&M has some billionaire boosters (not sure if they do?), buying out that contract for $76 million shouldn't really hurt the school.
And the guy is only 58-years-old, winning....................by losing!
The coaching carousel is reaching maximum spin status with announcements of Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Boise State all making changes at head coach of their football programs. It appears that we can soon add UCLA to that list of openings. According to a recent report from Bruin Report Online, the school will likely fire Chip Kelly ahead of their move to the Big Ten starting in 2024. Kelly took over as head coach in 2018 and he has been a middling coach in his return to the Pac-12. He is just 33-33 during those six seasons. A far cry from the 46-7 run he enjoyed in four seasons at Oregon before leaving for the NFL. The Bruins have suffered back-to-back losses to Arizona and Arizona State. Neither Dante Moore Jr nor Ethan Garbers were under center in the 17-7 loss to the Sun Devils. According to the USA TODAY Sports coaches salary database, Kelly is owed a buyout of almost $9 million.
This would make the third program that will have a new head coach when the Big Ten kicks off the 2024 season. UCLA would join Michigan State and Northwestern in that regard. Whoever takes over this program could have a five-star quarterback should he not choose to enter the transfer portal. Players have a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal following the firing of a head coach per NCAA rules.

He can just use the regular end of season transfer portal regardless of when Kelly is let go, but he can use that exception if it took place at a strange time, like in mid-February or something. I suspect Dan Lanning at Oregon and Kenny Dillingham at Az State are hoping he remembers all the talks they had. He was committed to them at Oregon.
