Hello looking to move from southern Texas to the Costal area of NC. Was wondering how the neighborhoods was like. Any information would be helpful as only been to Charlotte as couple of years back but with everything I have read would love to be to the east of Raleigh like Wilson for example. Have to sell our home here first and would also need a place to stay until can find a place to purchase. Thank you for reading this.

Please refresh my memory. I thought you were looking to rent with a very limited budget, like $1000/month and you have a child. Why did you decide on the coastal area?

The coastal area of North Carolina is over 300 miles long, so it is hard to generalize about neighborhoods. But, in general, the closer to water, the more expensive it is.

You mentioned Wilson, which is an older town far from the ocean. It had modest ranch-style homes, and is relatively inexpensive. You can tell a lot about a town from the facts in City-Data.

The reason I am looking here is my realtor is helping me and giving me ideas. I do not need to be near the ocean just a safe place to call home. I will be doing FHA so I have the down payment and closing just need to find the right home. With everything that is going on do not have the money or time to come and look at home in person and wanted an idea. My daughter will be with me but she is 25 and works from home also. Sorry to bother thought this was a good way to get an idea about areas and home prices. I can afford a home at 179,000 to 200,000 in price again sorry to bother.

Sounds as if you need to "escape" Texas. So sorry to hear that. There's nothing worse than living in fear for one's safety.

Have you looked in the Havelock area? (LOUD aircraft noise tho, so be advised.) It's within your budget.

Lots of places in Eastern NC where you can get a home for that price, just not too close to the coast, but I would advise against the I-95 corridor...I'm thinking the Greenville/Winterville area might be good for you, it is still an hour and a half to the coast, but is relatively affordable and has some city type amenities. Might be a good place to start since it does have a good number of rentals.
