I've noticed that many Ohio vehicles do not use a front plate, and wondered why. Was there a 'scrap metal drive' like back in WWII, and they donated one plate? Did they buy just one plate from OH and thereby save some money? Do they share a set of plates with another friend? Does it make the car lighter and thus more fuel efficient?

Didn't Ohio get rid of the front plate requirement a few years ago?

The plate is used as the target for the laser speed gun. The most reflective surface on the car.

Yes, and the current law in Ohio is still two plates, front and rear. Technically if you live in a state with only a single plate requirement you are violating Ohio law when you come into Ohio. But I doubt if Ohio is going to start tagging prople for having only one plate.

Apparently OH does not tag its own licensed vehicles w/o a front plate! A previous post implied that using the front plate makes you vulnerable to a speeding ticket. So if you break one law you can also break another law.

No you're not. The car isn't registered in Ohio so there's no violation. If you can be stopped for that then what about the out of state car which doesn't have the state's inspections it's being driven through?

Not true, only if you live in Ohio

If you live in Ohio, you should know you need two plates. That's part of living in this state, you are supposed to know the law.

Why don't they enforce it? Seems strange to have a law which isn't used....especially if: (1) cops would get more speeding tickets with enforcement, and (2) with a change in the law the state would save money on aluminum...and we wouldn't have to worry about those @#$%^& rusted bolts.

They do enforce it, but very rarely. I know someone who got a citation about 9yrs ago on Delta Ave. It's an antiquated law and should be gotten rid of. If you notice new cars are designed for a rear plate only. Tho it's minimal, a front plate adds wind resistance.
