It seems like there is perpetually a bill before the Ohio Legislature to eliminate the front plate requirement. And it also seems everyone is in favor of it. But for some reason it never seems to make it to the floor for an actual vote to become law, manages to get sidetracked by committee somewhere. Far as I can tell the only ones in favor of the front plate are the law enforcement agencies, and as has been commented it is a great target for a radar speed gun.

But as long as it is the current law, why is it not enforced?

A law which is not enforced is harmful to society because it convinces people that laws are optional, rather than serious tools for stabilizing a world which tends to get screwy. If we need them, OK.

What are you talking about? I was answering your post.

I have 2 plates you brought up coming into Ohio with only one plate. Please read your own posts before making new posts that don't make sense

My friend and I went up to Columbus for a show a couple of months ago, and he was ticketed for not having his front plate (while parked, no less). $45.

A little internet research showed that it's a commonly-enforced violation in Columbus.

I'd hate to have holes drilled in our bumper for an unnecessary license plate. I'm glad they don't enforce it.

^^^ That bugged me as well. I bought a first-year model a few years ago, so I wanted to keep it factory. I ordered it and asked that they not put the front plate on.

They did and I complained, but they told me that it was a violation for them to release a car without the front plate. Some dealers enforce it, some don't.

And just flat out looks ugly...also because car companies don't put brackets for them...you just screw them onto the front of the car...it can scrape the front bumper paint...it gets bent in too.

They need to go to 1 plate...I think we are one of only 10 or so states that require 2...I only was required 1 in NC, SC, and FL.

By observation, it seems that about 25% of OH vehicles do not use a front plate. That's a lot of civil disobedience! Either enforce the law or repeal it: we don't need anymore phony political stuff. We don't need a situation where so many citizens ridicule a law. What if 25% ran all red lights? What if 25% committed voter fraud? What if 25% beat their husbands/wives?

You're getting worked up over nothing. That comparison is not relevant at all.

While I won't equate front plate scofflaws with spousal abuse, cgs2000 is right. Either enforce the law or get rid of it. I prefer they get rid of it.
