You would think so, but it has been going on forever. Just investigate all of the older threads on this forum concerning the honey deal Mahoganey's was given at the Banks. By the time you wade through all of them you will have a much better picture of how politics work in Cincy.

You would think so, but the deals are so ingrained, lucrative and persistent that I've come to believe they are now simply a permanent part of the city's governmental culture. It's a case of, as the saying goes, people getting the government they deserve. Cincinnatians have become so acclimated to this stuff that nobody ever mounts any kind of effective protest or investigation. There's also a traditional culture on the part of the populace that authority can do no wrong. Just read these boards to see it--people who complain about the governmental situation are harshly met with strident cries that "you want Cincinnati to fail." Add to that the issue in at least the past mayoral administration that some African-Americans believe they are due a little extra here and there based on decades of unfair treatment, and you have what I consider the recipe for a deplorable situation.

OPINION: Cincinnati needs inclusion 'czar' | Cincinnati.com | cincinnati.com

You can sort of see why the loan and grant was given. I do not have a problem with that.

Is this administrative overhead (and pension obligation to boot) really necessary when the City as recently as six months ago had an African American mayor and four of the nine current councilmembers are black?

Seems like an absolute waste of limited City assets.

Do you really think every grant and loan they gave out all panned out except this one???? From what I understand Mahogany is not in default They maybe just be behind a payment or two like Toby Keith. Their busy season is just around the corner.

Sorry, their past history indicates this is a regular pattern. They have been behind in their debts everywhere they have done business. I don't consider this a quirk. but an intentional pursuit of push everything to the brink.

Most business owners get loans and startup cash through banks...Banks only lend money to those they know have a good history of paying loans back...no bank would loan to the owner of Mahogany's...that alone tells you the city definitely shouldn't have.
It's BS to push for a certain group to own a business...if they want to own one there, they should come up w/ their own financing and do it the way that every other business does. City gov't should never lend money to a business...tax abatements and tax breaks, sure...but its not the job of the city to be a bank...especially when real banks already established that this owner was an extreme credit risk.
Obviously no one cares for soul food or the place would be busier.

It may be a little different if it was even a loan. But it was not a loan, it was a grant, they gave them the money. How about them apples.
