I've heard all the arguments and understand servers live off their tips, but only a complete scumbag would purposely contaminate a customer's food, tip or no tip.

Agree, but likewise only a scumbag would deliberately withhold tips for cheapness.

It's mostly just a scare tactic because that threat is just about all they have to enforce compliance with an informal rule. Half the time when food is contaminated on purpose it's some nutjob who'll do it for their own gratification (see various recent stories on that).

Logically in an area like Los Angeles or the Bay Area, you could go out eat twice a week for 10 years without going back to the same place. But in practice I suspect most 'non-tippers' are visitors to an area who do not plan to go back to that same joint ever again.

Personally I've always tipped, at least in the U.S., but if I ever decided not to tip, it'd be because something went so wrong in the establishment that I'd never ever wanna go back there anyway.

Back to tipping again? We went through this once before.

If you want to tip, do it. If not, don't. As for businesses finding ways around this new $20/hr wage, I'll wait to see what the lawmakers have to say about it. They're such a creative bunch.

Well, this is a great thread. After reading Vincenze's question about tips, I can't help but wonder if they still have a drive through. If they do, then wouldn't you be able to just order that way to avoid the tip?

The last laugh is a long prison sentence if they get caught doing it. It's battery at min. With cameras everywhere that's be really stupid.

Interesting. Unfortunately, I'll never get to see this at Fatburger. I don't like them much. I hadn't been in years & finally went again about a month ago & they still weren't that good to me, so I'll probably never be back anymore.

I never dine-in at fast food places, so I'll probably never see the changes any of them are doing w/ the new $20/hr pay.
