Owens lake

Quote:
a mostly dry lake in the Owens Valley on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada in Inyo County, California. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Lone Pine. Unlike most dry lakes in the Basin and Range Province that have been dry for thousands of years, Owens held significant water until 1913, when much of the Owens River was diverted into the Los Angeles Aqueduct, causing Owens Lake to desiccate by 1926. A 2004 court order required the LADWP to reestablish a small flow from the river into the lake. As of 2013, it is the largest single source of dust pollution in the United States.
2022 and pretty much every year before that, since 1926

2023 still a lake

Which is why more storage (dams) need to be built to capture the run off of unusually wet years.

Beavers are the only ones allowed to build dams in California.

In anticipation of Hilary last weekend, San Diego was draining off excess water from several reservoirs around the county. It's always boom or bust.

Those reservoirs better make way. Get ready for a wetter than normal winter in parts of CA this year. El Niño is coming to a place near you.

The So Cal weather forecaster that I trust is predicting average precipitation, but colder than usual. I’ve never known him to be wrong. He’s the only person I know of who said that we would have much more rain than usual last winter instead of another drought year.
