I have seen videos about the Australia mice thing.
They are scary and absolutely creepy.
The only thing that comes close to it for me is seeing wave after wave of Mormon crickets in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

That's nothing. For years, I thought this children's tune was ...

Mairzy doats and dozy doats
And liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?

Turns out, it's actually . . .

Mares eat oats and does eat oats
And little lambs eat ivy
A kid will eat ivy too,
Wouldn't you?

You can see the growth, and not just in the lake

For those considering the awful "loss of cropland" due to the Lake Tulare (and a lot of other areas) flooding, check out the difference in crops from last year (dry) to this year ( record wet)

2023 view

2022 view

You can flip back and forth by clicking the years control (and yes you can check out other years as well)

It's pretty obvious how little green the dry year has (from irrigation and pumping scant water)

Compared to a wet year, there is way way more greenery, even if you include the "loss" from the lake forming again.

I know it will never happen, but using the lowest point of the valley to store the vast amounts of water would be a very cheap way to create the biggest reservoir in history. Since a lot of the land is already 28 feet lower than it was (due to groundwater pumping), the basin could have been lowered by a hundred feet, and they could not only store all the water, nobody would have been flooded at all.

But hey, we know the will never happen. Because land is so much harder ro come by than water in California.

To be precise, the biggest for California, not the world of course.
