Inland California has a general reputational problem. Almost every place in CA over 50 miles from the coast has a bad reputation with some exceptions for 'mountain resorts' with leisure infrastructure.

I think Sacramento has a better reputation than Fresno, but only because Sacramento is full of white collar workers not laborers. As left-leaning as CA is, it's also very classist. CA culture is geared toward Democrats who at 10 am on a Tuesday are sitting at a table reading the newspaper, not Democrats who at that time are unloading a truck or standing at a conveyor belt.

Thats old data, its closer to 60k today. It might be 60k already. Its still low, but at least its improving.

So, Why do you make trolling fresno a personality trait, chim? If fresno is as awful as you say/imply, why waste time trolling it? Are you worried for some competition? Does making fun of fresno make you forget all the homeless people in Sacramento who cause a ruckus? Does the Sacramento skyline grow every time you make a good fresno joke? Tell us, chim.

Another list we can all "take to heart" or "with a grain of salt", perhaps this shapes the

reputation of fresno.....or for any other city for that matter.

Cities with the Youngest Looking People

2. San Jose, CA
8. Raleigh, NC

13. Portland, OR
18. Honolulu, HI

25. Sacramento, CA
25. Nashville, TN

28. Phoenix, AZ
31. Miami, FL

40. fresno, CA
47. Las Vegas, NV

Fresno does not have any mountains close by.. Nice photoshop there, lol.. I know that area very well since I used to work out there and deliver goods.

Mountains close by? Sorry but 50 miles is not close. Even Bakersfield has the mountains within 20 miles of the city. Here in LA (Tujunga) where I live I am about 2 miles from the mountains. Fresno is flat, depressing, isolated and its just there. You can't even go for a walk there past 6 pm. It's a scary looking place.

There is a reason why its cheap despite being "close" to Yosemite which we all know it is not that close.

Yeah, people are photoshopping hundreds of photos. Very funny, Bruce. Nobody cares enough to Photoshop mountains on little ole Fresno. Get real. Used to means nothing, these are all recent pictures - Times have changed. Super detailed photos aren't Photoshop, but they do use big lenses. The same tricks get used on los Angeles pictures all the time.

North Fresno is 27-28 miles from shaver lake(a little bit farther than downtown Sacramento to Folsom Marina for reference). Shaver lake area is 5k-6k elevation.( Talking as the crow flies, obviously). That's no la, but still seems close to me.

New housing is not cheap in Fresno. Plenty of snobs here would struggle to afford a nice new house in Fresno. Old housing stock is affordable, sometimes even cheap. You're right on that one.

Fresno police are well-funded and well-trained. The police do a good job catching criminals in Fresno. It's not the 90s anymore, Bruce. Los Angeles' homicide rate was barely lower than Fresnos last year and above Bakersfields. Fresnos homicide rate this year is lower than Portland, Seattle, Boston, and San Francisco. Only 3 months in, but that's long enough to be a trend. Still have 8 months left

Strange posting history from Bruce.
Nothing makes sense about it. Reminds me of mrjester in some ways.
Could be somebody's second account here. You only have one account here, Chim. Right?

Northwest Fresno is not a bad place to be. Travelling east on Shaw ave will take her right to Fresno State.

And, the mountains are close..Head on up to Table Mountain, 20 mins away, you see foothills.

Just stay on the North side of town, if you're not familiar w/ Fresno and you'll be fine.

I've lived here all my life, it's NOT that bad.

I agree with you that much of Fresno isn't bad at all. On my many trips to see family down in the LA area we stop at Fresno, and have probably gone at least ten miles off the highway on both Shaw Ave and W Herndon Ave. Both were pretty nice areas, as were the residential areas when we drove around Ft Washington, Woodward Park and Clovis. As with any large metro area I'm sure there are parts that are a bit worn, but we have seen quite a bit of the north side of Fresno and it seems pretty nice to us.
