The Red Sox have won titles in recent decades, the As have not.
With the exception of you, who frets about MLB team payrolls? It isn't like teams drop ticket prices as they shed payroll.
If you truly believe that, you have quite a bit to learn about the economics of baseball. With no salary cap, teams in old stadiums and small markets have no hope of retaining their homegrown players after free agency compared to the franchises with billion-dollar TV contracts in eight-figure population metros.
Looks like botch number 3 happening right now: Yankees vs. Indians, some 5 hours and 45 minutes into the game (due partially to two separate rain delays) still going on ESPN which the Brewers/Dodgers games was going to be on, but that probably got moved to ESPN2, which the A's/White Sox couldn't this afternoon.
I realize with 8 games, the timing sucks, and different networks, but they really should've moved a couple of these ESPN games to FOX or MLB Network, or even more to TBS really, so if someone wanted to watch the full game in it's entirety then they watch it on one of those other networks

Traditionally the A's fail to retain such players. The true solution is several MLB franchises, always at bottom of salary scale, need to move. MLB should exist solely in the top 29 US tv markets, plus Toronto.
When a corp cannot compete where it is located, logical, well run corps move.
The A's have prevailed in an extremely hard fought series with the White Sox. In today's 6-4 win the White Sox has 12 hits and three walks, the A's pitchers were constantly in the stretch. Two big moments were when Abreu grounded out with runners on second and third to end the second, and Abreu grounding into a double play with two on to end a Sox 8th inning rally.
Renteria really out-smarted himself and pinned himself in a corner he couldn't get out of with the way he handles his pitching staff today. Bringing in Rodon when he did, a pitcher with a history of arm injuries I know he was banking (hoping) on him getting TLS (Tommy La Stella) out and ending the inning, but with the new rule you have to start looking 2 or 3 batters down the order because you have to face at least 3 batters unless the inning ends, and he was really screwed when TLS reached base and had to stay in because honestly I don't think Renteria planned that far ahead. Keep bringing in rookie pitcher after rookie pitcher probably didn't help matters out either. I didn't turn this on until the 3rd, so I wasn't listening to the first 2 innings, and it sounds like the White Sox fire-balling lefty got hurt so that's something unforseen that throws a wrench into plans, but why take out Dunning so early?? I won't put much of the blame on Renteria, but he definitely screwed the pooch.

These batters have become far too boorish with their stupid antics whenever they hit a home run. None have at least been slightly amusing. At least Terrell Owens breaking out the sharpie was funny. I fully support these clowns getting beaned the next time they step up to the plate.
The 2 Central divisions are going into pathetic territory! The NL Central and AL Central combined to field almost half of the participants in this 2020 expanded field (7 of the 16 teams combined from those 2 divisions). So far through 14 games the divisions have combined for a record of 2-12 and have already seen 5 of the 7 teams eliminated with 4 in a sweep. It's been so bad for the 7 clubs that even if the two remaining clubs sweep to the title, the combined record would only finish at 14-12 if St. Louis wins or 15-12 if the Cubs win since they have an extra game to make up.

It’s difficult to ascertain anything based on a 60 game regular season schedule. More so, everybody played approximately 30 percent of the competition. Central division teams only played central divisions teams. Very bad baseball teams too at the bottom of those divisions. I still thought at least in the NL, the Central seemed weak before these playoffs started. That’s why Atlanta was my pick to win it all. Easiest, most confident team in either league to pick to get to the League Championship series. Reds and potentially the Cubs (or Marlins).
