Aramis Ramirez comes full circle as he gets traded back to the Pirates....the same place he started his career, of course the Pirates are much better now then they were 12 years ago when he got traded. In an ironic twist, he got traded back to Pittsburgh on the same day 12 years after the Pirates shipped him to the Cubs; July 23, 2003. On July 23, 2015 he came back to his roots.
Steve Cishek got sent to the Cardinals. Both trades were for minor leagues.
Braves just donated Uribe and Kelly Johnson to the Mets for two mediocre prospects. Not sure why the Braves want to help a division rival reach the playoffs.

Not like Uribe or Johnson even comes close to fixing that enemic Mets offense. What the Mets just did was try to plug the hole in the Titanic with a Band-Aid. It may work for a couple minutes, but the ship is still sinking! Johnson & Uribe may help the Mets in a couple games, but the team is still missing the playoffs without a major upgrade on offense. Even Gerrado Parra from Milwaukee would be a better fit.
Astros are excited over the acquisition of Kazmir (and so is this fan). He will start for them tonight in Kansas City.
Is GM Jeff Luhnow done yet? If I were a betting man, I'd as soon not bet.
I wonder if Cueto could be next?? They kept around all their major prospects, so they can easily deal for him, and probably even Hamels too if they wanted.

Not a bad move by Alderson. The offense gets much better if, as it appears, D'Arnaud is back in about 10-14 days. This essentially takes Tejada out, swaps Uribe in, and add D'Arnaud and the lineup just lengthened a tad. With many games left vs NY East 3/4/5, a nudge may do the trick.
I'd like more, as truthfully, if I were them, I'd go for Parra. It may be doable (NIMMO?).
But this isn't bad. Just getting rid of having to play Campbell and Mayberry is a very good thing.
I would still hope we play Conforto every day for a few weeks, with KJ just spot starting. But this deal strengthened our bench, and upgraded our infield. For guys not on the MLB radar. Nimmo remains a trade chip.
Sat: Royals acquired Jonny Cueto with a couple prospects and reliever Brandon Finnigan headed to the Reds, Cards added to the bullpen depth by acquiring Steve Cischek from the Marlins
Today: Shane Victorino to the Angels for Josh Rutledge; Red Sox call up Cuban investment Rusney Castillo to fill the roster spot. Does nothing for the Angels, who should still be in on Jay Bruce (Reds) and Carlos Gonzalez (Rockies) as they need a lefty swinging power hitter to hit behind Pujols in the order, and Victorino does none of that. Pure depth move for them. On the Red Sox side, the 0-7 road trip to open the second half probably eliminated them from contention, so now it's time to see whether Castillo & Jackie Bradley Junior (who they didn't part with for Hamels) can both hit at the major league level, and now a spot's open for them to make that judgment.
Also today, Mets acquired Tyler Clippard for a minor league pitching prospect. Clippard hasn't been as good as he was in Washington the last 4 years, but that strengthens their team. They still can't hit at all but they can really shorten the game now. Clippard gets added to the bullpen that already includes Jeurys Familia, Bobby Parnell, and Jenrry Majia. Should the Mets make the playoffs, Majiaa would be ineligible, but that's still a pretty good bullpen. Also, with Familia now closing, Clippard can go back to the set up role, a role in which he thrived in in Washington. Good trade for Alderson and the Mets.

A's raised the white flag higher as following the trade of their # 2 starter, they unload their closer.
Clippard was making eight million a year to hang around waiting for save situations that infrequently materialized. He also was having control problems, 21 walks in 38 innings, so hope the Mets fans are patient.

Offense is looking somewhat better. Johnson brings 35 RBIs in 191 ABs, a 1 per 5.5 AB rate. Conforto looks like he is ready. I was at Sunday's game, and all weekend, this guy works the count and is very strong. When he and Nieuwenhuis collided, it was Kirk that bounced off, and KN is a stocky CF. Then add D'Arnaud back; he is at AA now. Not murderers row, but should be plenty given rock solid pitching.
Plus Murphy is finally striking the ball. First time all year this sweet swing looks like it did last year.
This is why the MLB deadline is as good or even better than Christmas:
Troy Tulowitski & LaTroy Hawkins head to Toronto for Jose Reyes and minor leaguers, apparently none of the Blue Jays big pieces. I think a 3rd team is also in the mix but nothing is official yet, can't see ANY reason why Colorado would want to keep Reyes. Also, if the Jays did in fact keep their big prospects (Daniel Norris, Miguel Castro, Dalton Pompey, etc) I wonder if they'll get shipped out for Hamels or Kimbrel??
