there's an excellent pitching matchup in Portland tonight
the Portland Sea Dogs (double-A Red Sox) are throwing Eduardo Rodriguez LHP traded to the Sox from Baltimore at the deadline. since coming to Portland in 37 inn, he's allowed 4 ER, 30 Hits, 8 BB, 39 K's.
Eduardo has a potential plus fastball that sits 91-94 tops at 95 with arm side run and some sink
a change he throws 81-86 that flashes plus fade, but is inconsistent, likely future average pitch
and a slider 82-86 with a good late break, dips hard and has good spin, also inconsistent
scouts are mixed about Eduardo's ceiling, some say 2-3 starter others say 4-5 or late inning reliever, the ones on the high end grade his slider as future plus
we'll see, he's certainly dominating Double A right now
his opponent tonight is Steven Matz LHP for the Binghamton Mets, Matz was a 2nd rd pick for the Mets in the 2009 draft. he missed all of 2010 and 2011 because of TJ surgery and complications during recovery.

I can't find the velo on his changeup only that is a future plus pitch
and in the Spring of 2013 Frank Viola worked with Matz teaching him a curveball which he's been trying to get consistent with since then, he's really making strides this year with the pitch.
Viola made this quote a couple of months ago
"The fastball has always been there, the changeup got there, and the curveball is going to be a 'plus' pitch as well. That will be three 'plus' pitches, and that makes for a big league career for a very long time.''
