According to a report by Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal/Sports Business Daily, Kurt Busch is expected to re-sign with Stewart-Haas Racing sometime in the coming days to continue driving the No. 41 Ford Fusion.
Stern reported on Sports Business Daily: “Stewart-Haas Racing is expected to announce this week that Kurt Busch has signed on to continue driving the team’s No. 41 Ford in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, according to sources. Terms of the new deal were unclear at presstime.”
Stewart-Haas Racing did not confirm nor deny the SBJ/SBD report. A spokesman told NBC Sports in an email, “When or if its official, you’ll see a release from us.”
Busch has spent the last four seasons with Stewart-Haas, earning five of his 29 career NASCAR Cup wins. He’s finished 12th in 2014, eighth in 2015, seventh in 2016 and 14th in 2017.
We’ll update you with more information if/when it becomes available.
I'm not surprised at Kurt Busch staying.. Though I'm curious as to sponsorship.
He hasn't had a full season sponsor load since he's been there if you take Haas out of the equation.. And I haven't heard anything good about Monster returning, either to the 41 or as title sponsor for the series after 2018.
Smithfield supposedly isn't a full season sponsor on the 10, so there's inventory there..
And.. There were a handful of races this year that didn't have 40 teams.. There could very well be 3 less with whatever happens with BK racing and another with the 77 shutting down.. I mean, we could see some VERY short fields.. This could make Tommy Baldwin look like a genius.. Sold his charter.. He could likely run a car every race in 2018 and get another one to sell.
I think both are good things so far as cost is concerned. Places like Gibbs could bring 10 specialists for the weekend.. Now, everyone is on the same footing.. Same with the pit guns.. Remember that there was a big lawsuit with Michael Waltrip Racing that I think is still making its way through the courts over a crew member taking a pit gun with him when he left.
Got my hotel for Daytona.. i booked it just a few weeks after last years race.. seems that i keep getting pushed further and further from the track.. argh.
I still have not purchased tix.. i did not auto renew mine from last year.. Not sure how many of us are going.. i like to sit in different places but this year i will have to opt for the cheapest available and because i have waited so long.. i expect the cheap $100 tix will all be gone.. argh..
Childress fires shots at men who attempted break-in his Home
DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -
Authorities continue to search for three masked men who allegedly attempted to break into the home of Hall of Fame NASCAR driver and team owner Richard Childress.
The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Reedy Creek community in Davidson County.
Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office said three people attempted to gain entry into the home while the residence was occupied.
Deputies said Childress and his wife heard a crash at a door on the lower level of their residence. Childress armed himself with a handgun and investigated.
The three people had the majority of their faces covered and appeared to be carrying firearms, deputies said.
Deputies said Childress fire gunshots at the suspects before they fled.
The sheriff said that a window glass beside a door knob on the lower level of the residence was broken and the alarm was activated.
Also.. saw jayski reporting that Barry Dodson had passed away. Rusty's 1989 crew chief.
