I am wondering if anyone has any experience wth Brake Check or Sear's Automotive to install brakes? I have been in Austin less than a year, so I dont know the market that well.

Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

I have had bad experiences at Firestone, but have not tried the places you listed.

What kind of vehicle do you have? These days, the dealers are often just as inexpensive as aftermarket shops, and offer factory quality parts to boot.

We had terrible results at Firestone, they tried to oversell my wife on stuff and didn't do a good job which caused us to complain to get them to replace the rotors.

We found the brake specialist shop on Parmer right by Metric is very good and honest. The manager has fixed stuff for very reasonable prices and didn't attempt to push stuff on us.

I've used Brake Check almost exclusively for several years. I believe the chain is based out of San Antonio. The service I get seems to vary by location, but usually is very good. The one negative experience I had led the manager of that store to give me the "lifetime" warranty on my pads and rotors. That's why I only use them now... it costs me just $25 per wheel for either pads or rotors for the life of the car.

I had similar experiences, they tried to sell us on lots of work that really wasn't needed. The brake pads they installed on our Honda Accord made a horrible grinding noise sounded like loud sandpaper when ever we applied the brakes. They refused to fix it insisting the parts were correct. I finally had Honda do the work over. Honda said the brake pads Firestone installed were the wrong kind, far to hard, and would have damaged the drums if we had left them on. Firestone denied it all. And to the kicker was the Honda brake job wasn't much more expensive then what Firestone charged. I never went back after that.

Time to get my brakes done I think. I'm close to hitting the 40k mark and my car has suddenly started squealing while I drive it (not while actually braking though). I live right by Christian Bros. off 620. Has anyone had experience with them? Pricing? Honesty?

I don't trust Brake Check, who previously attempted to upsell me on a brake job and then passively aggressively forced me to sign waivers when I refused their unnecessary rotor replacement.
