Hi all,

I'm looking for a little help and/or advice...

My wife and I are considering a move to Austin. We currently live in Brooklyn, NY and I work in the wine industry. My wife is from Austin and we have family nearby.

Ideally I'd like to open a store or winebar or both. Do any of you have any ideas for a neighborhood or nearby town that really needs something like that?

Southwest Austin for the wine bar. We're lacking good restaurants and definitely a wine bar.

Dripping Springs or Buda would be possibilities.

Too much competition in the city. There is a new Alamo Drafthouse coming to SW Austin on Mopac/Slaughter. There is plenty of retail restaurant space available, the area is called Parkside Village. You can read about it on Stratus Properties website. The median income in this area is over 100K, so it would be a perfect spot for you. Let me know if you want more info.

No offense to Dripping Springs or Buda, but I don't think you will see the traffic there that you would hope for.

Depends. Buda is growing and, near as I can tell, doesn't have something like that. Dripping Springs has a fairly sophisticated population, and with Belterra and the other subdivisions going in there, could very well provide traffic that would prefer to go someplace closer than Austin.

Most of the clients that I have that are looking in the Dripping Springs/Driftwood area are absolutely the kind of people that would appreciate something like this.

I like wine and drinking in general, but have never seen a "wine bar" in Austin or the outlying areas that wasn't primarily to get around the "anti liquor sales, i.e. Wimberley etc. You probably need to look into those issues as they will make a huge difference regarding where you want to invest.

Arbor Trails, you mean Winestyles? Maybe he is thinking of doing something better than that. I disagree with Dripping Springs or Buda, again no offense. It will be a long time to develop the traffic out there. The retail is slooooooooooooowly coming. It would do better near Circle C.
