So I've been wondering about this for a while...why isn't there a sticky with information for moving to or around Austin? I have done tons of research on multiple cities on City-Data, and there is usually (at least one) very helpful sticky for area information like links to past threads, maps, useful websites, school info. I totally get the fact that there are those who don't want anyone else invading "their" Austin and probably don't want to make it any easier for people to do it, but its going to happen either way so how can we get a sticky started for this purpose? I promise this would benefit everyone because when consolidated in one place, the amount and quality of information will be vastly improved, and the CD community won't have to deal with "hey I'm moving to Austin, can you tell me EVERYTHING about it? And is it Hot?" And people will be able able to find easier answers without being told to use the search tool every time. Just saying because I have done my research and used the search tool many times, but I see this exchange multiple times a day.

we don't have a dedicated mod any more, that may have something to do with it. Search function does work well!

I don't know that there is any particular reason we don't have one other than what centralaustinite said. The fact is, 1000 people a week are moving to Austin and a bunch of them come on here and ask specific questions relevant to their specific relocation needs. In Austin, one size does not fit all! Chances are, there are lots of threads on just about any topic if you use the search features. Also, CD pages are always useful: http://www.city-data.com/city/Austin-Texas.html

I agree, it would be very helpful. Even many smaller cities who have thier own boards have a "moving info" sticky.

I have long thought that it would be a good idea to have an Austin sticky, since so many of the questions and answers we get here are repetitive. I will start one as I already have a lot of information collected on my personal pages I can add to it, and everyone is welcome to add information to it.

If we make it a useful resource we should not have any trouble getting the moderator to make it a sticky thread.

That's what I was thinking CptnRn. I was thinking of starting a thread with clear instructions like "DO post helpful links or info, DON'T post generic personal questions like...this is my situation should I move here or where should I live".

The folks on the Austin forum are generally pretty well behaved. We don't need a lot of moderation luckily. If something does get a little out of hand, someone will usually report it and it gets handled. It's rather civilized compared to some of the forums on CD! Considering that the mods are volunteer and it's such a tough job, I'm sure that having a forum that doesn't need a lot of moderating is a bit of a relief.

Please go to the Welcome to Austin Info Thread... thread and click on the red and white triangle to report it and ask the moderators to make it a sticky. If enough people do that I'm sure they will do so.

And please contribute anything you can think of that is useful to it.

Thnaks...

Not true. Per the moderator list at the link below, the assigned moderator here is Debsi. One report of this thread should suffice for getting Debsi's attention.
