I read an article in the WSJ about 1970's style stagflation on the horizon, and I know that housing and everything else is going up. Have Austin wages matched inflation, exceeded, or fallen short?
It's taboo to discuss, so we'll do it anonymously.

Have you gotten a raise over the last 12 months, since inflation has been ramping up?

For the record, inflation was 7% over the last 12 months.

Yes, plus biggest bonus in as long as I can remember. The raise wasn't 7%, but the bonus will offset quite a few years of 7%.

From my personal experience, its extremely difficult to get a raise in IT by staying in the same position... ...My raises typically come in the form of job or role changes.. staying in the same role just seems to give them an excuse to pay you the same salary.. I have had instances though where I threatened to leave and suddenly I became important.. I've had even more instances where recruiters tried to lowball me but found out I had multiple offers and coughed up the rest of the dough.. ..otherwise.. ..my salary technically decreased compared to pre-covid but I've made it up plus some with the extra job.

You bet. My employer isn't stupid. It was either increase wages are see more workers quit. Anticipate work bonus will be extra generous this year. Inflation has presented some obstacles, though overall I'm not that concerned. Seems like they pick and choose what goes into inflation equation anyway, so even in the "low inflation period" I still had to account for significant increases. It sucks grocery prices are going up 7%, but if you been living in Austin for the last 10 years, and you're use to rent or property taxes increasing 10% year over year, then it's nothing new.

I think Via313 is on strike regarding wages and Covid. Will be interesting to see how that turns out.

In the past 20 years, retired Teachers have not received any COLAs, only two extra “paychecks” granted by the legislature. (They just deposited the 2nd one yesterday).
My SS annuity has increased by about $200 total in the past 15 years.

I’m a residual based independent contractor sales person. When I want a raise, I get off my ass and go sell something.

I HATE this. It's gotten caught up in other controversial legislation.
