Thanks. I'm looking at one house in Kyle, TX that is priced reasonable - is this area safe? I see Dollar General and a Pawn Shop close, so doesn't look great, but maybe it's still safe and quiet?

Kyle and Buda are fine. However, your commute will be over your desired time. Don’t listen to on specific poster who talks badly about the area. Do you have plans on coming to visit before moving here? Buying a home before even visiting a city is...interesting.

Kyle is a great place to raise a family. I would look at Plum Creek.

Well, that doesn't look optimistic at all. Was it, indeed, sarcasm?

Asking a million dollars for a house in Kyle?
Kyle is a city a hour away from downtown, where the construction and retail workers live.

The I-35 corridor in Hays county has had almost no economic expansion over the last 10 years while central and north Austin have exploded (Apple, Facebook, Schwab, Tesla, Samsung, Google).

Kyle absorbed the ghetto people priced out of South Austin, and is now the cheapest suburb in the Austin metro. It has a pretty bad gang problem, too.

I used to love going to that boutique pie shop on main st in Kyle next to the train depot, but over the last 10 years, the crowd in that area has turned into the XXXLarge T-shirt/Face Tattoo crowd.
Based on what I see, the home builders in most of the Kyle are either KB Homes or Perry homes, the complete bottom of the list of most trusted builders:

To make things even more interesting, it seems that new company will NOT be paying for my realtor fees. Considering renting my current home in Orlando and renting in Austin in this scenario. Decisions, decisions...

A nearly 390,000 square feet commercial industrial center is coming to Hays County.

"Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell said they’re not limiting which types of businesses can lease the buildings. "

Translation: most likely sex toy manufacturers

The more I think about it and look at properties, the more I'm leaning towards renting my own home in Florida and renting an apartment in Austin. The estimate for rent I got was around $2500, while my mortgage is below $1900. I could easily rent a 2bdr apartment in Austin for below $2000, skip this whole craziness and buy on my own terms. Or maybe even continue renting for a while, as long as somebody is paying my mortgage via renting, I'm happy.

What makes me most amazed is when I actually started looking at some of those places on youtube or photos - Kyle or Manchaca look like sort of a farming village, yet you suddenly see houses sold for $500K+ :| Just bizarre.

Up until the last ten years there were distinct lines between the towns on 35 between San Antonio i and Austin. None of these were “farming villages,” or anything like that, just small texas towns with lots of open land…maybe ranch land. Developers got wind of the open space and bought the land and the people came.
