And have you visited recently? Just making sure you know you’re not moving back to the Austin of 2005.

Yes, it’s dramatically different, I know. Not what it once was.

in some ways it is much better and in others it is worse. It just depends on what you value

And there has not been any attempt to rationalize the civil war as anything 'noble'.

They also start a social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum in ES, which seems to mainly be about not bullying, feeling empowered to stand up to bullying, and learning about your own emotions and how to deal with them. Seemed kind of like fluff when I first heard about it, but it has been incredibly effective (in my limited experience) at educating a better group of kids, especially at the middle school level.

Or maybe since the OP is from the Bay Area they are referring to this kind of revisionism, aka dumbing down:

Oh, seriously! Some of those are funny. I don't think we have gotten there yet. The Manchaca thing is sort of in that direction, though. Waiting for the call to rename Bowie HS.....

LBJ was racist so we should definitely remove references to him, his administration, and his wife.

Yeah, that's kooky but there's kooks on both sides of the divide. i'm all for purging confederate statues and anything celebrating them but it's ok for those soldiers to be in history books because they are a part of history whether I like it or not.

Putting ultra-lefty examples aside, I think there does need to be more racial dialog and understanding in this country. All of us can stand to look at things critically while still being empathetic.
