So I decided to take this 4th to visit Matt’s Elrancho on S.Lamar as I’ve always wanted to visit it given the amount of traffic it gets.

Server: Welcome to Matt’s Elrancho, may I start you off with something to drink?
Me: May I have a sweet tea?

Wow there is a literal homeless tent settlement spanning many many blocks under 183 around where furniture row is….I’ve been here 18 years and it’s gotten worse. That state ban is a joke

183 between SH45 and I-35 is absolutely terrible now. It’s definitely gotten a lot worse. The camping ban won’t do anything if it’s not enforced. I don’t expect Austin to enforce it either.

I was down there a few weeks ago in my way to RunLab and thought it was better then in the past. That was the first homeless camp I saw when I moved here in 2015 and it was shocking coming from San Antonio.

I also think part of the underpass issue is that they are officially state property. Pre-pandemic the governor had troopers out helping to clean them up but they haven’t been out since the pandemic let up. And given how much crap he gives the city, Im surprised that wasn’t one of the first things he did once stuff started to get back to normal. On a similar note, I ran down cesar Chávez this morning and there were still several tents all along the side walks. Not quite sure if it’s any better than before…it was just about 8am, so there weren’t menú people out, but I’m sure that changed by about 10am.

Also, I was not prepared for the rain this morning and was soaked the whole time I was out.

Lol it looked bigger than ever before to me … looked like it went on forever….actually that whole area around much of 183 looks as blighted as it ever was. So many vacant storefronts some vacant for many many years…covid didn’t help. Everything so dated and stuck in the 80s/90s… vacant car dealerships…

As for rain I think we’ll be seeing a drying pattern. I’m torn because the water bill was only 135 bucks

Just call them and tell them you’ll drop by but you don’t intend to stay very long
