Does anyone have any pictures of Austin that show the "real" city...meaning something besides the COC (chamber of commerce) photos that don't necessarily depict what life is like in a normal neighborhood?

We had a job prospect in Austin, but we've never been there. Have heard great things about it...but we'd like to see the 'real deal.'

Thanks!

Those pics are fantastic! I especially like the one on SoCo with the hippie girl in cowboy boots... that is so south-Central Austin

Nice..In the last pic, though I do not get to see many alley ways. I've been to cities like Chicago, New York and San Francisco and I have to say Austin has by far the cleanest alley I've ever seen. The other cities had scattered trash, graffiti and used syringes. If the alleys are clean, then the city itself is truly a gem.

No doubt! That's what we love about this part of the city. Really, it's what got us excited about living here!

I agree. I have always loved urban alleys. I always liked finding the little hidden ones in Cleveland. Of course some of them were pretty creepy

Question Photo locations?

Nice photos! I'm a Midwesterner considering snowbirding South this next winter. Have family in TX who said they thought I'd like Austin. I do enjoy the cooler climates, but *this* winter's record snowfall (since 1880s) was a bit much!

I have no idea where to begin, so when I saw this thread, I thought it was as good a place as any! The photos of these older buildings - are they an artsy shopping district or is there an area of Austin that looks older like this?

The Midwest is quite older-looking which I like. I also have a pup now, so we'd be looking for a place that's less dense, population-wise.

Send more photos! And... if you could tell us where the others were taken, that'd be nice. (Even generally - like NSEW of Austin - or whatever.)

Thank you!
