We are planning to install Bermuda Tiff 419 and our backyard which is already loamed and its about 1800 square feet and its a new house , we asked for quote and they are quoting 460 for grass , 200 for labour , 90 for delivery...does it sound good to you? Can you recommend anybody who can do a better job at an optimal price?

Do we need drip zone for vegetable garden ?

Thanks....

Honestly, that sounds like a good deal. Do yourself a HUGE favor and have some soil amendment delivered and added to the 3 inches of crappy soil they've graded your yard with - your grass (and your water bills) will thank you.

Also, verify with that price that you are getting Tif419, and not just a Tif common Bermuda - two totally different grasses.

Yes, you do need to add the proper soil amendment. The loam is not sufficient for sod placement.

That price looks very reasonable to me. That is less then it cost me to pay my yard man to replace the St. Augustine sod at my rental house. That was back before Tiff 419 was available.

Drip irrigation is recommended if you are putting in an irrigation system. It looses less moisture to evaporation then spray sprinkler heads.

Staying on the topic of grass...can anyone suggest a good lawnmower? We don't have a very big front or backyard....anything reasonable and durable (if that goes together

For 'not very big', I highly recommend the Black and Decker cordless. No petrol, no smell, no tune-ups, quiet as a mouse. Disclaimer: I am not familiar with the Bermuda variant you are getting. It may not play well with a cordless rotary mower. A reel mower(human powered) is a good option for most Bermuda.

The only thing I don't like about reel mowers is that they get jammed everytime you run over even the smallest twig. Great workout though.

A friend of mine that used to work at one of the large home stores once suggested this lawnmower:

"The Honda HRR216VKA ($399) is what I would go with. The next model up is an extra $100 and all you really get is an extra handlebar height option. Three years of overseeing returns and I never once saw a Honda come back."
