Buy a gas mower if you don't care at all about air pollution in this growing city. Otherwise, buy electric (cord or battery) or reel.

Of course, the smaller cut will require more 'trips' to cover the lawn; however, they are more maneuverable if you have the need to cut curves, around tree rings, between plants, etc.

Scotts has been around forever but some of the Fiskars models are pretty nifty. Consider what pbnj mentioned about debris getting caught in the blades. I skipped a manual reel mower since we have large oaks and cedar elms dropping 'stuff' all the time.

A reel mower can make Tifway Bermuda look great if you have a nice flat lawn and are able to mow it often. If you have a small lawn it may be easily manageable. Our new yard is 80' x 120' with Tif 419, I'd love to get a gas reel mower for it but it would need to be mowed every few days, which I'm not ready to commit to. Regular gas rotary mowers just don't produce the same results, but they're more forgiving if you don't keep a strict schedule with your lawn maintenance.

Back in college I worked at a golf course in the summer and we would mow the greens every morning with reel mowers. With any type of reel mower you have to keep on top of it; topdressing, clearing debris, and regular mowing. However, if you are willing to do the work you'll have a beautiful yard.

I agree that an electric lawn mower is a lot less hastle to have around. No need to store voilitile, leaky containers of gas and/or 2 cycle oil around your house where it can be a fire hazard. No need to run to the gas station to fill up containers of fuel and haul them back to your house, hoping they don't, leak in the trunk.

All inputs were great....totally agree that if we go with reel mower , it would have to be done every few days (and skip the gym )

Thanks again!

We recently decided to hire a landscaping company to revamp our garden here in Austin. An old friend recommended Cutters Landscaping Austin for the job. We took their advice, and I must say, the experience was excellent, and the results were just as good. They transformed our garden beautifully, exceeding our expectations. I highly recommend their services to anyone looking to enhance their outdoor space.
