We are heading up to Austin from San Antonio tomorrow (Saturday) for an afternoon wedding. Where should we have lunch beforehand? I am open to almost any type of food. We are stying downtown so somewhere not too far from there. I just don't know the restaurants at all (but wish I did). Any good websites that would help me out? We want to come to Austin more often than we do, and my husband is a UT alum, but it's been so long he doesn't know where to go anymore. Thanks in advance!

How about Bess' Bistro? That is the restaurant owned by Sandra Bullock. It is downtown, has upscale comfort food, and the reviews have been very good.

To see restaurant reviews and listings go to www.austin360.com or www.austinchronicle.com .

Bess' is a great recommendation for upscale. For regular laid back Austin style, you might go to Shady Grove on Barton Springs. The Hippie Sandwich is my favorite, along with the fries!

Magnolia Cafe on S. Congress. The entire menu is my favorite.

Check out Lambert's. Good location downtown and great reviews. I also like Garrido's, especially for soft tacos, and Ironworks for BBQ. Manuels is always reliable for good Mexican.

Bess is good atmosphere wise, but last time I was there the fries they served with the fish and chips were inedible...way too salty. I complained and they said to fill out a customer comment card. I did and never had any feedback. Really not the best customer service, if you ask me.

I've never been to Bess' Bistro, but have been to Shady Grove and think it's a great recommendation for a very Austin place to go. Will have to try Bess'.

Wanted to try Bess but their website says they aren't open on Saturdays. Will use these recommendations for next time.

Shout out to the Hickory Street Grill on Congress and 8th. Funky atmosphere, excellent food, you can sit outside under heaters, and they almost always have live music.

Green Mesquite. The Jambalaya and loaded potato w/brisket at GM warms the soul.
