Hello,
Does anyone know of a vet in Round Rock or Austin that does non-anesthetic dog teeth cleaning? We are moving to Round Rock and would like to have our dogs teeth done without anesthetic. I'd really appreciate the referral. Thanks!

I would love to know that myself. My almost nine year old dog needs her teeth cleaned and because of her age they want to do blood work first. I could hear the dollar signs ringing in my ear as the vet was talking to me.

The vets use anesthesia because it's faster and easier.

But many years ago, they did teeth cleaning with sedatives rather than anesthesia. You migh want to discuss this with your vet, as it can be done. Whether they are willing to use sedatives rather than full-blown anesthesia is another matter.

If you have ever lost a dog that went under anesthesia (which I did, in 1990, when prior bloodwork was not customarily done in West Texas), you'll pay the cost of bloodwork before general anesthesia.

We currently live in California and at our vet's office they wrap the dog up like a burrito and do it without anesthetic. It is expensive $200/dog but worth it not having to put the dog under anesthesia. We are moving to Round Rock in a months time and I wanted to find a vet who did this in Austin. I guess I will need to have them done here before we move. The Vet said it wasn't quite time yet and we could wait until we move but it looks like non anesthetic dental is not available in Austin. What I worry about is in the future when they are older I won't want to put them under anesthesia then either. They are 7 now.

Must be a little dog... I have to wrestle my dog just to clip his toenails, big 70 lb baby that he is.

No actually they are two 55 lb bearded collies! I was surprised that they could do it on such big dogs. Both of our dogs get pretty excited but have had the non-anesthetic cleaning done 3 times. It is a service that goes to our vet office 2 times a month. I am sad to see that I can't find a place in Austin. Maybe some day....

Well, remember, C-D is not the entire city of Austin, and it may be available here. I'd like to find it, myself, and will ask around and see if anyone I know knows where it can be found (or even if my vet knows).

I did a quick Bing search and found that someone else had the same question. You may want to contact the Vet that was recommended though since this answer was from a couple of years ago.
