Our best hope for a new flight to Asia remains Shanghai. Either on Delta or, potentially, China Eastern. Atlanta actually has pretty good geography for layovers between China and South America, which is a market that is essentially impossible to serve nonstop. Our only legitimate North American competition would be DFW, ORD, and Toronto, and, out of those, Atlanta has South and Central America covered the best. Right now the preferred routing is via Europe, but European airlines can't serve Caribbean destinations and smaller cities nearly as well as Atlanta can.

I'd prefer to see China Eastern in here, just to add some flavor. They are ordering a ton of new widebodies capable of making the trek.

Happily, we're still getting weekly 7x 777 service and 3x A380 service on Korean, and it's still scheduled to be daily A380 + 3x 777 in the future as far as I know.
Delta has tried Shanghai twice from Atlanta are you saying a third time will be a charm. Also didn't they switch DOT Shanghai flight authority to Seattle or Detroit from Atlanta. It will be interesting to see what European and Latin America flights Delta will start in the summer of 2014. I'm so glad Korean is sticking with the A380 so far.

Also on the domestic front, I fully expect Southwest to start Atlanta to Dallas Love Field, since the Wright amendment thing is ending in 2014. I'm also looking forward to the Master airport plan update due out in 2014. From the glimpse of it the six runway will fit beautifully next to the fifth runway, I wonder if the Airport will have to use imminent domain to build a new runway.

Looks like Delta and the city are considering signing a long term contract around supporting the airport master plan including building the 6th runway and additional concourses.

I'm not saying it will happen, just that it's the only plausible option for a third Asian destination (after Tokyo and Seoul). And it's not too hard to imagine within a ~5 year timeframe. Traffic between the US and China is skyrocketing, and Chinese carriers are hungry to be first in to US destinations.

For instance, Air China recently began serving Houston from Beijing (Star Alliance connection with United). Similar flight in terms of distance, market size, connections, and affiliation that a China Eastern flight from Shanghai could have with Atlanta.

That's pretty good, although I was hoping they would bring the A380. Also was wondering if Delta will bring back any more European routes for the summer. Its also beautiful to see Daily Korean Air A380 super heavy service.
