I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. Most of these engineers are already employed by the state DoT. They are already getting paid. It's not like they are getting an extra cut to design a roundabout. Not to mention, roundabouts have been around since the 1700's - I don't think anyone is really designing anything.

Your assumption lacks. Civil engineers get paid a salary, there is nothing in that line of work that would warrant a commission or bonus type compensation. So they get paid the same for every intersection they design.


They don't somehow make more money from roundabouts any more than they make more money for making sure an irritating signal goes in at every new Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowe's.
