I live in Oro Valley, it's generally 5-10 degrees cooler than Phoenix is during the day and 20 degrees cooler at night. Also has a large community pool, an active cycling and triathlete scene and tons of options for running. This area attracts professional runners, cyclists and triathletes in the winter for training.

We could live almost anywhere in Arizona and we've found that Oro Valley gives us almost anything we want. If we need big city amenities or to get to a larger airport, Phoenix is a quick 90 minutes up the road.
Not to highjack, but I have been researching AZ because I am thinking about my next major move. What you mentioned is a key element in what I am looking for as someone that enjoys cycling. Oro Valley, huh? I need to put that on my list of places to visit.

There is a reason pro cyclists from around the world come to Tucson in January and February and have been since the 80's. Nice place to get in long days in the saddle while soaking up the sun.

That's wonderful to do with someone you love.

Welcome to looking into Arizona. I feel it is my 'duty' to 'warn' you with this tongue in cheek satirical thread:

https://www.city-data.com/forum/ariz...not-think.html

Otherwise, Arizona has a wide variance of peoples and especially climates. There might be a magic middle ground for both of you somewhere. But I'm not that familiar with some of your specifics. Hope you do find humor in the thread.

RE: kids competetive swimming...I went to the same high school as this lady. Three olympic golds. She was/is involved with this swim club...https://rioswimteam.org/1704-2/. Without knowing much about it, it is likely the best of the best. Good luck!

Sad that you have to point that out.

Hubby and I have been to AZ twice in preparation for our move, planning at least 2x more times before we decide on a location. Like everyone else has said do your research before you come and stay in the towns you like for a week or so

Also getting a good realtor who can help guide you is a must

Don't get a pool. Pools are part of what's causing our climate problems.

OP, I'm curious if you've never been here, what's attracting you to Arizona?
