I don't know quite how to put this nicely, but I've been scoping out areas of Arizona I think I'd like. Looking for an area that is not too cold in winter and not too hot in summer,so obviously Phoenix probably wouldn't be good. However,it also comes down to a matter of culture...in researching I've seen YouTube videos of some of the towns I was looking at,and they were joking about how 'r*dn*ck' and 'wh*te tr*sh' they were and some said they were proud of it.

I'd be coming from WA where I've had my fill of that, and was looking for some higher quality towns if possible. Prescott is one possibility, any others?...

You made a cultural assessment based on YouTube videos?

Prescott is nice but pretty good ole boy in vibe. Sedona strikes me as the only place outside of parts of the Phoenix metro that feels at all affluent.

They're the best way to see reality...better than biased opinions etc.

We're trying to diversify the age group here. I'm an older Millennial living in Prescott Valley, it's tough but doable.

Agreed. Most of the Southwest is insanely poor and quite freaky. Sedona is one exception (outside of the major metro areas). Its a shame that its a touristy, cheesy town shoved into some of AZ's best scenery. I prefer Santa Fe, but the OP seems focused on AZ.

I'd give Oro Valley a shot. It's pretty warm but it's higher in elevation and cooler than either Phoenix or Tucson and is pretty affluent. And quite beautiful. On some occasions it gets a light powdering of snow. Snow + saguaros is epic.

Feels like outside of Phoenix, most if not all, of Arizona has so much wasted potential. Bullhead City lives a stones throw away from a casino strip, and it still looks slummy, though I'm hoping their new airport will be ran better than ours was. Kingman has a crooked city council that pissed away our airport and let KRMC monopolize independent practices. Flagstaff and Sedona sound nice on paper until you live there. Does anyone even care about Havasu anymore?

It feels people are afraid of growth and change, and more fast food and Walmarts instead. Want a nice paying career that's NOT nursing or sales? Better get a U-Haul and move elsewhere. Some of these cities could offer the kind of lifestyle Phoenix has and trust me, people who can't stand the heat will want to move there. Where's the start up tech industry, where are the jobs for aspiring engineers who don't want to deal with the noise of the big cities? What about entertainers? Product developers? I don't think it's a bad state but man it feels that outside the capital it's missing out on so much opportunity.

You want Santa Fe. Upscale. Nice weather. Some snow, 90's in summer.

Or maybe ShowLow.

What was wrong with WA? We were thinking of going there, at least for summers.
