"because AZ is perceived as having bad schools"...it is not just a perception.

Arizona: 48 out of 51. Arizona: D+ to D-. Arizona: 51 out of 51 in education spending, school system ranking 43 out of 51. Arizona: D.

Ya gotta spend money to get better results.

So far this thread hasn't gone too far south yet. I'm impressed.

I'm not fond of the Governor personally.

In 2026, there simply won't be enough money for public education (as the principle of the land trust will be depleted) and the education cuts will have to be so severe (as it's almost impossible to reverse tax cuts) that Arizona will likely become the first state in the union to eliminate public K-12 education. Therefore, Prop 123 serves the Koch agenda perfectly.

If you actually care about public schools and future generations, I'd strongly suggest a "no" vote on Prop 123.

Even the teachers are thinking now, not eleven years from now, and that's somewhat understandable. It's not enough to think it's a good thing just "because teachers are in favor of it".

He is a lying sack of ----. He is more anti-gun than Brewer. He just got HB 1257 killed by lobbying RINO Senators to vote it down on the FINAL read. It was a done deal, and that pos torpedoed us at the last moment.

1257 would have allowed lawfully armed, fully vetted, ccw permit holders to carry their sidearms in public buildings, same as cops and legislators, and the gov can do.

But WE the People, are NOT equal. The corrupt govt is MORE equal than the rest of us.

according to this link all but 10 states in the US have school systems with a C or D rating so apparently Az has a lot of company with schools needing to improve. Money does not equal good schools since many Catholic schools have excellent ratings and operate on small budgets.

Everyone knows private schools are superior to public schools, do not almost every wealthy individual, politician or hollywood type send their children to private schools? Why? because they all know that private schools are better, even Obama sends his kids to a private school with secret service protection they would be safe at any school but rather than having his kids be an example of public school superiority he sends his kids to a very expensive private school.
Private schools should be an option for every child. I say spend the prop 123 money on private schools and give kids the option to attend them.

Good lord, Catholic schools operate on much larger budgets per student than AZ public schools, proceeded a fraction of mandated accommodations and get to pick their students and most of them out here are just as equally mediocre

It's actually a way to prevent the State from having to pay their settlement in Cave Creek v. DeWitt by putting the money on the backs of future generations. They have the surplus in the budget, most of it is a result of not paying their legal obligations owed to the public schools per Prop 301, but they are using the budget for corporate tax cuts.

In essence, if you put this together we are using the State Land Trust to subsidize corporate tax cuts. Except that the triggers are on the Schools in case of a recession.
Totally agree.

People send their kids to private schools to keep them away from certain kinds of kids. I came from a voucher state and you should hear the parents complain when a "voucher kid" goes to their school. Seeing the behavior of some kids I don't completely disagree with them.
